The Textile Arts Center is pleased to present, Moving the Needle, a retrospective exhibition celebrating four decades of quilts by Gigi Mosconi. Spanning work from her earliest meticulously composed pieces to her recent improvisational quilts, the exhibition reveals the evolution of an artist whose practice has continually balanced structure with spontaneity. Rich in color, texture, and thoughtfully considered composition, Mosconi's quilts reflect a deep engagement with material, process, and the expressive possibilities of cloth.
As her work has evolved, quilting has become a means of exploring memory, resilience, and personal transformation. Through intuitive piecing, slow stitching, and an embrace of imperfection, Mosconi creates quilts that invite quiet reflection while demonstrating the enduring power of making. Together, these works offer an intimate portrait of an artist whose creative practice has unfolded over four decades.
About the Artist
Introduced to sewing by her grandmother, Gigi Mosconi found in quilting both a creative outlet and a welcome contrast to the demands of a career in medicine. Her early quilts reflected the precision and symmetry that shaped her upbringing and professional training as an interventional radiologist.
Over time, her practice evolved from technical perfection to improvisation, embracing intuition, asymmetry, and the unexpected. Today, her quilts explore themes of personal growth and emotional healing through the meditative process of slow stitching, revealing quilting as both an artistic practice and a lifelong journey of transformation.
